THE NATIONAL CANCER INSTITUTE'S "MULTICULTURAL MEDIA OUTREACH PROGRAM" PROVIDES CULTURALLY RELEVANT INFORMATION TO A DIVERSE PUBLIC, BY WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE ETHNIC-MEDIA.  ITS "LIFELINES"-INITIATIVE IS A CONTINUING SERIES OF OUTREACH-ARTICLES AND VIDEO-VIGNETTES THAT ARE DESIGNED TO ADDRESS PREVENTION, TREATMENT, SURVIVORSHIP, HEALTH-DISPARITIES, CLINICAL TRIALS, AND OTHER CANCER-RELATED TOPICS--AS THEY RELATE TO SPECIAL POPULATIONS.  ANOTHER ASPECT OF ADDRESSING CANCER-DISPARITIES INVOLVES ATTRACTING MORE MINORITY-RESEARCHERS TO THE CANCER-FIELD.  N-C-I DOES THAT THROUGH ITS "CURE"-INITIATIVE--WHICH OFFERS FUNDING TO SUPPORT PROMISING, UNDERREPRESENTED STUDENTS FROM HIGH-SCHOOL ON UP.  "CURE" HAS AWARDED NEARLY FIVE-THOUSAND GRANTS--TO MORE THAN 26-HUNDRED TRAINEES--SINCE 19-99.  TO LEARN MORE ABOUT BOTH "LIFELINES" AND N-C-I ITSELF, VISIT "CANCER"-DOT-GOV-SLASH-"LIFELINES"--AND "C-R-C-H-D"-DOT-"CANCER"-GOV.
