While it's not on the front-page, the genocide in Darfur, western Sudan, continues:  400-thousand people are dead, two-million have been violently displaced, and two-thousand villages have been destroyed.  Rapes and other physical attacks still occur regularly--and large-scale food shortages may be just around the corner.  But, there is something you can do to make sure the U-S government takes action to end this nightmare.  Retired Canadian General Roméo Dallaire--who tried, in vain, to warn the world of the start of the 19-94 genocide in Rwanda--has estimated that 44-thousand peacekeepers, with a mandate to protect innocent civilians, could stop the cycle of violence in Darfur.  Over one-thousand people have made the pledge to call or e-mail the White House every weekday--until President Bush ensures the deployment of those 44-thousand peacekeeping troops in Darfur.  Give a voice to your conscience today. Visit "darfur-pledge"-dot-org; That's "d-a-r-f-u-r-pledge"-dot-o-r-g.  A message from "The ETHIC".
