DISCOURAGED BY IT. WE'VE FOUND THAT WE CAN CHANGE STUDENTS'
PERCEPTIONS--AND IMPROVE THEIR SUCCESS--WITH A COMPREHENSIVE
INTERVENTION, FOCUSING ON THE KEY AREAS OF TEACHING AND LEARNING MATH.
THESE COMPONENTS INCLUDE: STUDYING AND APPLYING RESEARCH-PROVEN METHODS,
INCREASED TEACHER TRAINING, AND MORE CLASSROOM TIME FOR STUDENTS.
WE'RE ALSO USING TECHNOLOGY TO GET STUDENTS MORE ENGAGED--AND TO GIVE
TEACHERS THE ABILITY TO KNOW, IN REAL TIME, WHICH CONCEPTS STUDENTS HAVE
MASTERED, AND WHERE STUDENTS NEED MORE HELP. WE BELIEVE THIS
INTERVENTION WILL RESULT IN FEWER STUDENTS LEAVING HIGH SCHOOL THINKING
THEY AREN'T GOOD AT MATH: THEY CAN LEARN AND USE MATH; THEY
NEED TO LEARN AND USE MATH, TO DO WELL IN THE WORKPLACE, AND IN
COLLEGE--AND TO MANAGE THEIR PERSONAL LIVES."
