Light-Bulb Public Service Announcements from the
U.S. Department of Energy
--
How
Will You Use This Story? --
The U.S. Department of Energy
has produced these radio Public Service Announcements to educate Americans
about both saving money on their electric bills and looking for "lumens"--a
new way to shop for light bulbs. Lumens tell consumers how bright a
bulb is. By thinking in lumens, consumers can purchase light by the
brightness that they want--and not by the energy that each bulb uses.
For example, a typical 60-watt bulb gives off
about 800 lumens. Many newer bulbs still provide 800 lumens, but only
use about 15 watts or less--so your energy bills would go down. For
example, if you pay $8 to light a space in your home with a traditional
bulb, you would pay about $2 to light the same space with a CFL or LED bulb.
